Dos and Don’ts of Wedding Travel

With the popularity of destination weddings increasing every day, it is helpful for the bride and groom to know a few do’s and don’ts when it comes to traveling. Here are some pointers:

Q. What information will our guests need?
A. It is very important to make sure that you make all friends and family members aware of your wedding date and site. The earlier you tell them, the better. Let them know at least a year, or more, in advance, so they can save the date and be there for your big day.

Q. Can we get married anywhere we want?
A. Never plan a wedding in a foreign country without first checking into marriage rules and requirements. You may be surprised at what you find.

Q. Can we get group rates on the flight?
A. If you have many friends and relatives coming from the same general area, you should be able to book flights at a group rate. Also check into getting a group rate for your hotel. Your guests will thank you.

Q. Do we need to visit the venue before arriving for the wedding?
A. Ideally, you should be able to walk the grounds of your wedding site well before you book it. In this way, you will be sure that everything is to your liking. Don’t rely on a brochure or Internet picture, because you may be very disappointed.

Q. Do we need to get immunizations?
A. It is always important to check with the Center of Disease Control and Prevention before traveling, to make sure any required or recommended immunizations are taken care of. This should be done well in advance of your trip.

Q. What kind of paperwork will we need?
A. Depending on where you are traveling, you will most likely need a passport and/or a visa. Contact the appropriate agencies to obtain these papers months in advance of your trip.

With advanced planning, your destination wedding should run smoothly and be well organized. Early timing is the key.
